Score Report Options
Group Standard Scores (Required)
All reports contain group standard scores for each content area and overall. This table compares your students with a multi-year comparison group of seniors taking each individual content area. It also provides an overall score based on the number of content areas used.
Group Raw Scores
These are percent-correct scores without the item difficulty adjustment and penalties for wrong answers that are part of the standard scores. We do not recommend viewing these scores as similar to an in-class test because ACAT assumes an average of 50% correct.
Group Demographics
Your students can voluntarily report their gender, if they transferred to your institution, if they plan graduate studies, and their overall and major grade point averages. We provide these as aggregate data..
Courses Taken
Students voluntarily report the content areas included in courses they have taken at your institution. We provide the correlations between taking the courses and scores in the corresponding content areas.
Area Performance and Self-reported GPA
We show statistically significant correlations between GPA and scores in the content areas and overall, in tabular format.
Annual Departmental Gains
Change indicators compare the students in your current group to a cumulative group consisting of the students you have tested since beginning use of ACAT. We provide this only in the end-of-year report.
Standard Scores by Name
This is a table of student standard scores in each content area and overall, with a percentile for overall performance. The table includes names and ID numbers, sorted by name.
Standard Scores by ID
The table includes student ID numbers and scores without names.
Stanine Scores by Name
Stanines place individual performance within percentile bands and may be preferable to using specific standard scores and percentiles. The table includes names and ID numbers, sorted by name.
Stanine Scores by ID
The table includes ID numbers and scores without names.
Pre-post Gain Scores and Percentiles
The table lists the pretest and senior exit scores for each student taking both and gain scores compared to a multi-year pre-post reference group. This information is available only to programs conducting ACAT pre-post testing and only for certain disciplines. You must administer pretest and senior exit tests a minimum of 12 months apart. We provide these scores in the June final report only. See the individual discipline pages to determine if pre-post gains scores are available.
A Note About Individual Pretest Scores
We routinely report only group data for pretests. We do not include individual student scores. ACAT used as a pretest is to assess an overall cohort. If we make individual scores available, there is a possibility of introducing an inadvertent bias towards students who perform poorly. Departments wishing to apply for an exemption allowing them to receive individual pretest scores should contact us for the required assurances.
